The western groomer left Jan 19 around 11am with the new roller packer and went west to Tignish and back on the rail bed, then made a driver switch and the groomer went east to Miscouche and back. Both operators were very pleased with the results of the roller at packing the snow. This is a new piece of equipment that has been brought in to help get a better base sooner in low snow conditions which will hopefully lead to a better trail as winter progresses and we get more snow. Earlier this evening (Jan.20) we tried the drag to test the results, it only went for about 30min and the operator stopped because of not enough snow. The guides on the drag which keep the drag straight were digging into the ground and taring up the ice and bringing up the gravel. The groomer returned to base. After the winds tonight we will reassess in the morning as there will be drifts. The cross country trails will be looked at to see if there is still snow left in the fields after the wind. As you are aware we need more snow and hopefully it comes soon.
