GROOMER REPORTS

Central Trail

Central Groomer left yesterday morning and headed west toward Summerside.  Able to do more cutting with the drag to level out some of the rollers still there from the last storm.  We did another pass on Route 208\Warburton Road to the bridge and continued to Summerside.  This is still a very bad area around Green Diamond and the Dekker Road.  Operator went thru with the drag to cut some of the tops off in areas.  Thanks to western groomer for coming down and getting some other areas done.  With the mild forecast today will be waiting til late this evening and going towards Emerald and Borden.   Hope to get back to north side on wednesday as looking mild again after that.  Sled safe and stay to the right

February 9 Update

by Admin | Feb 9, 2024 | Eastern 1 Trail Eastern Groomer and Island # 4 are still working together to get everything opened. We are now at 66 consecutive hours of breaking through the trail system. We came from Souris on Trail # 100 heading west to St. Peter's and Mount Stewart. This section of trail had enormous amounts of snow especially through the blueberry fields near Morell. Both machines were close to 6 hours busting through the 10 foot high banks and it was extremely slow work, Finally after 10 pm they were able to make it to Mount Stewart before heading back down the Route # 104 towards Lake Verde. Both machines headed in the #105 towards Mount Herbert hoping that this new trail might offer a section with a little less snow, but as one of the operators told me this morning this is the worst section of trail we have seen in 4 days of busting banks. When the trail is this hard to get through we go through a tremendous amount of fuel and before they could finish we had to retreat back to Grandview for fuel and fix a couple of hydraulic leaks. We will return back to the 105 and finish opening this section before hooking on to drags and starting all over again. I can not believe the amount of time it is taking to get these trails open as it is the worst I have seen in 25 years of managing the groomers. The operators have done a splendid job of keeping the machines running through these massive snow banks and drifts but unfortunately it is taking longer than we had hoped (not from lack of effort). Hopefully we can finish breaking through the final tough sections today and start with the drags. For those who will be riding this weekend please understand that the trails are not perfect yet but passable and you need to be very careful « Older Entries

Springside Trail

Well another great weekend of sledding is behind us ! With snow brings lots of sledders , it sure is great to see. Cuddy had the trails in great shape by early Saturday morning , he went from home base then did the 301 up to the 209 over to Crapaud, and onto Albany to intersect the 101. Turned and went back to the tee intersection of 209 and 211, before proceeding as far as Brookvale before returning back to home. Be advised that they are starting a logging operation on the 235 (Kinkora highway) end of the 211 also known as Ross rd. One side of the trail will be plowed so USE CAUTION as there will be vehicle traffic on it. We will have shared access, and temporary signings will be in place soon. Finally apparently a cement truck has found it's way onto the 211 near the ski park, he is being towed out asap, but if in the area ride with caution. Watch for flashing lights and ride right !
