GROOMER REPORTS

Central Trail

Groomer Left Winsloe yesterday morning and headed to Summerside.  Drifting was bad in some areas and good straight snowfall in others.  Being told to use caution at road crossings because of the high drifts the sight lines are not the best.  Busted trail all the way to Miscouche and then did a driver change and then proceeded out the Grand River Trail (route 204).  This side of the trail is only one drag wide in most areas as the hard pack underneath was causing the groomer to spin out.  Will try again this week with some of the mild temps to come during the day.  It was drifted the worst of the trail last night.  Winds stayed up most of the night so sled with caution in areas.  Groomer returned to Winsloe early this morning and another driver change ad we are now grooming out to Borden so watch out for a big green tractor in those areas. Plan is to return to Winsloe toinght and then go start the North Side loop(route 212). We will be planning to go back toward summerside monday day and evening.  Sled with care, it will get better.  LOTS of snow in most areas.

February 8 Update

As I write this report the Eastern1 and Island 4 have now been running for 43 consecutive hours and we are starting to see some progress. Yesterday we were able to get to Georgetown on Route 103 from Mt. Stewart as well as Trail # 222 into Montague. The pair of groomers then headed towards Ashton on Route # 221 where once again they came across enormous drifts and amounts of snow. We have been very fortunate so far that the two machines have been together because we were able to quickly get going when the lead machine happened to get stuck a couple of times. Both groomers are finishing up in Souris now as they have completed the trip to Elmira on Route # 100. Please note their is now a new section of trail from Elmira back to the Souris Line Road for those who make the trip to the most Eastern section of our trail system. Groomers will be heading back on the #100 towards St. Peter's and Morrell where hopefully the snow banks and drifts will not be as bad as we fear they could be. After getting to Mt. Stewart we will be heading back to pick up the drags after doing into Mt. Herbert on trail #105. As you all know this has been a tremendous undertaking getting these trails opened and I heard from several sledders indicating that the job the two machines are doing with the compactors is very good, not perfect but very rideable. If you are riding the trails in these conditions I just want to remind everyone to slow down and ride safe. I just want to thank the operators for their dedication and snowmobilers for being patient as we work through this major snow event in the east.

Eastern # 1 and Island # 4 Trail Update February 18

What a Saturday it was on the eastern trail system. Trailer load after trailer load of sleds heading east with hundreds of sleds enjoying the close to 350 kms of trail. By evening some of the most heavily traveled areas were showing the effects of the heavy traffic and were getting beat up bad. Plan was to have 3 groomers go last night and do some of the busier loops but unfortunately one of the machines decided because it had a hole in a fuel filter it was not going anywhere so we adjusted our schedule and the two groomers ended up doing the necessary trails but in some cases only had one pass instead of the planned two passes. The # 4 left from Grandview Welding and headed for Murray Harbour on the # 104 and after making it to Ocean Acres it turned and headed back on the # 305 through the County Line Road and Greenfield. The operator then returned for fuel and took the #104 to Pisquid River through Lake Verde and as I write this he is returning back to Grandview. The # 1 Groomer also left through the night and did the # 217 through Greenfield and on to New Perth, then west on the # 103 to Mt. Stewart and then returning back to Grandview on the same route. Unfortunately we can not get over the entire trail system in one evening to give it all a refresh, but at least some of the main trails have been given a fresh pass. The groomers will not be running today because of the anticipated traffic but plan is to run tonight
