GROOMER REPORTS

Central Trail

Groomer left this morning and headed towards fredericton to begin busting banks at the warburton road.  Took a little longer than expected as the tractor needed a exhaust filter cleaning which was about 30 minutes and the condition of the road.  Broke a hydraulic line on the drag but thanks to one of the board members we were able to get it back going in about 1 1/2 hours.  It took 4 passes to bust the banks and did 2 passes with the drag.  It is better than what it was.  Land owner in that area has asked the people follow the road at the bottom of the field instead of going around the woods as he has winter wheat in the field.  Plan is to head to summerside in the morning and return.  Another few passes should cut more of the humps out of the drifted areas.  Railbed is lacking snow in some areas and still 4 feet in others.  Hopefully this week we can get 15cm with no wind.  Mild thru the day mid week may be able to cut back some of the drifts.  Lots of traffic everywhere today so hopefully everyone enjoyed.  Thanks to all the drivers who pull off the trail or stop when the groomer is coming, makes there job easier.  Sled safe and stay to the right.

February 8 Update

As I write this report the Eastern1 and Island 4 have now been running for 43 consecutive hours and we are starting to see some progress. Yesterday we were able to get to Georgetown on Route 103 from Mt. Stewart as well as Trail # 222 into Montague. The pair of groomers then headed towards Ashton on Route # 221 where once again they came across enormous drifts and amounts of snow. We have been very fortunate so far that the two machines have been together because we were able to quickly get going when the lead machine happened to get stuck a couple of times. Both groomers are finishing up in Souris now as they have completed the trip to Elmira on Route # 100. Please note their is now a new section of trail from Elmira back to the Souris Line Road for those who make the trip to the most Eastern section of our trail system. Groomers will be heading back on the #100 towards St. Peter's and Morrell where hopefully the snow banks and drifts will not be as bad as we fear they could be. After getting to Mt. Stewart we will be heading back to pick up the drags after doing into Mt. Herbert on trail #105. As you all know this has been a tremendous undertaking getting these trails opened and I heard from several sledders indicating that the job the two machines are doing with the compactors is very good, not perfect but very rideable. If you are riding the trails in these conditions I just want to remind everyone to slow down and ride safe. I just want to thank the operators for their dedication and snowmobilers for being patient as we work through this major snow event in the east.

Springside Trail

Groomer left home base yesterday at 2:30 ,took the 209 over to Crapaud before proceeding on to Albany where it meets the 101, it then turned and went back to the TCH near the Red Rooster, from there back to the 211 and onto Fredericton to the 100 , then turned and went back to the Cabin . This morning he left home base and did the 301 over to the 213 behind Lank's farm, to the 100 then back to the 301 and then into North River on the 317 as far as the bypass did not go all the way to the Dutch Inn, turned there and went back and did the 315 into Cornwall before returning to the 301 and onto the Cabin. We will see how much snow we get over night and decide when to go back out. Watch for the flashing lights and ride right!

Western Trail

The groomer is on it's way to Tignish and doing the Piusville Loop.   When it gets back it will be heading to St Eleanor's.
