GROOMER REPORTS

Central Groomer

Central Groomer is plugging away at drifts on the rail bed.  They are numerous and are very high.  Be aware in Between Darlington Road and Colville Road. We will have an excavator in there to dig out the massive drift.  This is going to take time to get open.  It is not going to be smooth until we will be able to get the drag back on.  A huge thanks to the operators putting in the time and effort.  They do not get enough thanks or praise cause there are not many who will do the job with what is out there.  We will keep you updated as we get the info.  Hoping to get to Kensington or past today and work our we back.  SLOW DOWN.  Trails are going to be confined as for the size of the drifts.  STAY TO YOUR SIDE OF THE TRAIL.  Groomers are big and are not as nimble as sleds are.

Eastern # 1 and Island # 4 February 19 Update

It was another extremely busy day again on the Eastern Trail system. Between trucks and trailers from all over PEI and the many sledders who are able to access the trail system by snowmobile there was heavy traffic on all the trails. Speaking with some of our restaurant partners like Peake's Tee, Ocean Acres Campground and Deck Restaurant, they indicated it was one of the busiest weekends ever and gas stations in Murray River, Mount Stewart, Dundas and Scotchfort also indicated they were busy as well. Two groomers left last night and we did a double pass on the #104 between Grandview and Mt. Stewart and made a double pass into Morrison's Truck Parts in Mt. Albion on the # 105 (Lots of traffic from this area as it was used as a trailer unloading area). We also did a double pass on the # 217 from East Uigg to New Perth then another double pass on the #103 from the Bus Depot to Mt. Stewart. Starting tonight the groomers will begin grooming the entire trail system again with double passes. With traffic expected to be heavy again today I just want to let snowmobilers know that the following restaurants will be open for our members. The Deck Restaurant at Ocean Acres Campground in Murray Harbour, Holy Cow in Morell, and Red Claw Bistro in Souris is also open for business today on Islander Day 2024. If you are out and about please keep right and ride safe.

Island 4 Trail

As I write this report on Saturday morning, the Island # 4  groomer is still running. As I mentioned yesterday after we got free from the large drifts in the Iona area we were able to make it down to Murray Harbour with the box drag before heading back to Grandview. The #104 from Grandview to Murray Harbour has had two passes of the drag, as well the #305 down the County Line Road has also had two passes and the 305A has also been done with 2 passes. Trail # 217 from Vernon to New Perth through Greenfield has also been done twice yesterday. The #4 Groomer also did the #103 from New Perth to Mt. Stewart and then the #100 from Mt. Stewart into Toymaster and back to New Perth. The groomer will be back in Grandview in a couple of hours and then we will reevaluate to determine Saturday night plans. It has been a busy week and with the exception of 6 hours of being stuck in Iona the groomer has been running non-stop since Wednesday morning so I just wanted to thank the operators for their efforts to time to get the trails in the best shape possible

KASA

Yesterday the groomer went to rustico,Stanley bridge and out to Fredericton during the day. 208,308,404 done. And last night Springvalley was completed. 406,304,206. Grooming in the cold temps yesterday hoping to set it up good to not be affected too much by today’s mild spell. As some of you may have noticed and we have confirmed it there is someone living year round at 204 old Princetown rd on the 208 to Fredericton between millvale rd and Warburton bridge. We will have to share access as we don’t have exclusive rights to public roads. Please use caution and drive slow in the area.

Springside Trail

Well what a great weekend of riding ! Our trails are so smooth people are mistaking them for roads. After the second truck of the day was unstuck the Groomer left home base and did the 301 to the intersection of the 209/211 , fixed up the mess on the trail here , then proceeded to Fredericton on the 211 and as a result smoothed out the other mess. Turned in Fredericton and went back to the intersection again and proceeded on the 209 towards Crapaud , into the Red Rooster and then over to the railbed 101 in Albany, He turned and took the 209 back to the 301 and into home base. Reports are the trail is in really good shape with the little snow that we have. We ask that you try to keep it that way until we get a much needed refresh of snow. Ride safe , ride right and watch for the flashing lights !

Western Trail

The western groomer left Jan 19 around 11am with the new roller packer and went west to Tignish and back on the rail bed, then made a driver switch and the groomer went east to Miscouche and back. Both operators were very pleased with the results of the roller at packing the snow. This is a new piece of equipment that has been brought in to help get a better base sooner in low snow conditions which will hopefully lead to a better trail as winter progresses and we get more snow. Earlier this evening (Jan.20) we tried the drag to test the results, it only went for about 30min and the operator stopped because of not enough snow. The guides on the drag which keep the drag straight were digging into the ground and taring up the ice and bringing up the gravel. The groomer returned to base. After the winds tonight we will reassess in the morning as there will be drifts. The cross country trails will be looked at to see if there is still snow left in the fields after the wind. As you are aware we need more snow and hopefully it comes soon.
